Letters Make Words (coming soon) The art of teaching children to read is all about ensuring that students have a strong foundation in understanding the sounds letters make and comprehending the vocabulary. When we embarked on creating a book to teach children to read in an enjoyable and engaging manner, our focus was on bolstering letter and sound knowledge alongside a deep understanding of word meanings. Mirroring the proven science and research will lead to the best possible outcomes for a child’s reading ability. This is precisely the task we aimed to accomplish-- with this book. Stimulating specific areas of the brain that facilitate the development of reading skills in children can be achieved by utilizing the book’s captivating illustrations and effective mnemonic devices. This approach aims to create a memorable and engaging learning experience, ultimately fostering a strong foundation for literacy.
Our dream was to create a magical book to get children engaged in the process of
learning to read. By magical we mean effective! Research shows the best way to teach
children to read is by teaching them how to decode sounds/words and build vocabulary.
Children will think outside the box, solve exciting puzzles, use illustrations as mnemonic
devices to recognize letter sounds, and become readers without the frustration in this
fun and engaging book. An exciting illustration of an electrifying “B” shaped battery will
establish the letter sound associated with “B” as Bah; b. A depiction of a bellowing “T”
shaped tuba horn helps solidify the letter sound associated with “T” as Tah; t.
Furthermore, these newly comprehended letter sounds are reinforced with word
creation. The newly learned “B” sound is followed by an illustration of rain to produce the
word “Brain, B + rain”. The newly learned “T” sound is followed by an illustration of an
ear to produce the word “Tear, T + ear”. These same techniques are utilized to further
explain reading elements such as Digraphs, Blends, Compound Words, and so much
more. According to Dr. Hollis Scarborough, an award-winning literacy researcher devoted to researching how children read, says developing as a skilled reader requires foundational reading skills in both word recognition and language comprehension. This magical book will provide both of these critical skills. The ultimate goal of reading is to gain knowledge. Reading is the building block on which all learning is based. We know that all children can benefit from increased literacy. "Letters Make Words: The Complete Guide to the Science of Reading” will bring the letters to life and create a new experience for young children. Our hope is two-fold, to formulate a genuine foundation of reading skills and to assist in growing a love of reading.
